Who We Are
Nursing Alliance for Fair Treatment of Kansas
The Nursing Alliance for Fair Treatment of Kansas (NAFFTKS) is a grassroots coalition of nurses, healthcare professionals, and community advocates united in the pursuit of fairness, transparency, and accountability within the Kansas State Board of Nursing.
Formed by nurses who have experienced firsthand the challenges of audits, overdisciplinary actions, and administrative barriers, NAFFTKS exists to protect the rights of practicing and retired nurses across Kansas. The organization was created to ensure that nurses — the backbone of Kansas healthcare — are treated equitably, with due process and respect for their professional contributions.
NAFFTKS supports legislation to reform the Kansas Nurse Practice Act (KNPA) and the Kansas State Board of Nursing (KSBN).
Our Collective Efforts Focus On:
- Ending excessive disciplinary actions for clerical or non-practice-related errors.
- Establishing clear pathways for expungement and fair hearings.
- Promoting transparency in board communications, appointments, and disciplinary procedures.
- Ensuring nurses receive adequate notice, a grace period for license renewals, and protection from retaliation.
- Encouraging collaboration between lawmakers, healthcare institutions, and community partners to strengthen Kansas nursing standards.
Through advocacy, education, and collaboration, NAFFTKS empowers nurses to raise their voices, influence reform, and help shape a more just and sustainable future for their profession.
Together, we stand for fair treatment, legislative reform, and the protection of those who dedicate their lives to caring for others.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to advocate for equitable, transparent, and accountable governance of nursing in Kansas by reforming state policies and laws that unfairly penalize nurses.
We are dedicated to protecting the integrity of the nursing profession through legislative action, community engagement, and education. By building alliances among nurses, lawmakers, and advocacy groups, we strive to ensure that every Kansas nurse is treated with dignity, fairness, and respect free from fear of unjust discipline or retaliation.
Fair treatment for nurses means stronger care for Kansas.
Looking Ahead
While our immediate mission focuses on passing the Kansas Nursing Fair Treatment Bill, our long-term vision is broader:
- To provide resources and education for Kansas nurses navigating regulatory processes
- To expand advocacy frameworks that can be adapted by other states facing similar issues
- To foster fairness and transparency within all state nursing boards
This movement started in Kansas, but fair treatment for nurses should be the standard everywhere.
